Found on the Ground

Life is a treasure hunt.

Baby Kittehs & Mushrooms

Dscn2061

Dscn2045

A few sights along the way to a hideous apartment I saw last month, when we were pretty desperate for a place to move. (This was the same day I found the pink Hummer, FBI application, and Healthy Cooking for One.  What a day!)

It had rained recently, and there were tons of mushrooms on the ground.

The kittens were very sleepy.  They were barely interested in me and my camera.  They were rescues available for adoption, chilling out in the window of a ritzy pet store near the Mug Shots coffee house.  I thought it was a little sad that the fit in with the area's theme of "behind bars", but I'm sure they found good homes.

Visionquest: No Horseplaying

This was found near the youth "study center" in the Museum Area. The study center is the future site of the Barnes Museum, which is being moved from its current location in Lower Merion, PA.

Sad and ironic that this home-detention program is called Visionquest, but not accidental.

Healthy Cooking for One

Dscn2077

Dscn2079

Like many other kids going away to college, I brought with me a little matching set of one dish, one bowl, one mug, one fork, knife, and spoon.  It was from Bed, Bath & Beyond, and was called something like, "Singles!"  Or maybe it was called "Just One!"

Eexlebots, who was one of the first people I met at college, took one look at the enthusiastic "Singles!" packaging and said, "That's sad, man, that's really depressing."

This is sad/funny in exactly the same way.

How sad would it be to make yourself a shrimp cocktail, unappetizingly serving it in an ice cream glass as shown on the front cover, and light a stubby little candle for yourself?

The back cover is even worse.  You're all alone, eating your one, single pancake or your veggies-only hoagie... Drinking your health shake and lifting your tiny, Golden Girls style handweights, measuring your waist after every workout...

Dammit, when will you be thin enough to find love?  When will you at last graduate to "Healthy Cooking for Two"?

There is a prize for anyone who can tell me what the heck that metal thing is in the picture of the coffee drink.  I have no idea.

She Loves Me Not

Dscn1793

We interrupt Engrish Week to bring you what is perhaps the saddest find ever:

Two cigarettes on the ground, and hastily discarded roses.  In an arrangement of 3 red roses, each rose is supposed to stand for one of the words in "I Love You".

But she doesn't love him. :(

Sad Doll

Dscn1600

A friend's mom asked us to go look through her childhood home before it was demolished.  I found a beaded bracelet with her name on it, and this.

The bracelet was the one she wore home from the hospital after being born.  She was very happy to get it back.  But she couldn't figure out who this doll belonged to, so she said I could keep it.

Picture Frame

Dscn1391

Dscn1393

These photos were in a vintage pocket-sized picture frame I bought at Salvation Army.

That dashing fellow on the right is one of those pictures that comes with a picture frame when you buy it.  But the baby picture is real.

Kind of sad.  I mean, either the previous owner took the other photo out and didn't want to keep this baby picture, or it was donated as-is, and they didn't have anybody else's picture, so they kept Mr. McPhotoson there on the right.

The frame has a neat little design where the rings hold the photos in place, and is about 1"x 1".

Job Application

Dscn1329

There's something very sad about this, I think.

It's dated 7/jul/FRI (14).  The writer pressed down with the pen very hard and it seems like they were struggling just to form the letters.

Anyway, I can't really get it out of my mind, and I hope whoever gave up on filling this out found a way to get a job somehow.
